Chuni Park

Chuni Park’s practice is a profound exploration of self-healing and introspection. Between 2016 and 2018, his immersive plein-air practice in natural landscapes culminated in his acclaimed Forest trilogy—Forest of Healing, Forest of Silence, and Forest of Contemplation. In these works, particularly through the juxtaposition of anonymous figures and a striking red sofa, he masterfully articulates themes of spiritual liberation and existential reflection.
Driven by a vision to globalize the heritage of Korean ink painting, Park has recently expanded his geographic and conceptual scope. His latest series, The Untraveled Road, Unfamiliar Landscape, captures the monumental canyons of Utah and Nevada. Synthesizing traditional ink and acrylic on hanji (Korean mulberry paper), his dynamic brushwork adapts to the overwhelming scale of nature. For Park, this intense, physical process of mark-making transcended mere labor, becoming a form of artistic meditation.
A graduate of Hongik University, He was selected as the 1st place winner in the Korean Painting category of the "Artist of the Year" awards hosted by the Dong-A Ilbo in 2006, and was named one of the "Top 10 Artists in their 30s and 40s" by 50 critics in a selection hosted by the JoongAng Ilbo in 2010. He is a prominent contemporary Korean ink painter who has garnered significant recognition.
Park’s works are institutionalized in major collections, including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA), and he continues to exhibit extensively worldwide.
