Our Story

Nestled at the foot of Cheonggyesan Mountain in Gyeonggi Province, Woonjoong-dong (운중동; 雲中) derives its name from its scenery where the clouds never seem to leave the said mountain. This beautiful neighborhood, which also has a small river flowing through, has now become home to the newly established Woonjoong Gallery.

Woonjoong Gallery is a cultural sanctuary where neighbors can indulge themselves in good works of art. It also provides opportunities for growing artists to share their works that they put great effort into. The gallery serves as a place for communion, understanding, and inspiration.

OUR STORY

There is a saying that life is a series of waves to overcome. I believe that art gives us the courage to face the waves and not avoid them. Some artworks become the waves themselves, whereas other artworks become companions that help us fight against the waves. Either way, art encourages us to embrace the waves as well as the journey that comes with it.

The unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic has shown how fragile everyday life is. In these rather confusing and unsettling times, the Woonjoong Gallery has opened to the public, believing in the power of art to console and empower those who are facing seemingly unconquerable waves.
