Ryu In

 It was a dark reality that Ryu In had came through but he labored for making sculptures by himself and tried to communicate with people who lived together at that time. Since his death, the world has not changed. We might live in a harder time with social problems including economic inequality between the rich and poor, generational conflicts and gender issues.  Ryu In had only 10-year-career in art and created approximately 70 pieces, giving a thrill to us. He took a role carrying on tradition of imagery sculptures and affected numerous other sculptors. It has been over 20 years since Ryu In died, He dealt with the unreasonable and contradictory world, embracing humans living in the world. He is still alive in us.

 류인의 짧은 작업 활동으로 그가 남긴 작업은 70여 점 남짓이지만 작품마다 전하는 울림은 강렬하다. 그는 우리나라 조각사에 있어서도 형상조각의 계보를 잇는 역할을 하고 있고 다수의 조각가들에게 영향을 주었다. 불합리하고 모순덩어리였던 현실을 직시하고 그 안에 살고 있는 이들을 보살피며 함께 살아가고자 했던 류인이 떠난지 20여 년이 지난 지금도 여전히 그는 우리 곁에 살아 숨 쉬고 있다.  "예술이 아름다움을 찾는 건 일종의 의무지만 탐미주의자들이 말하는 그런 아름다움이란 것에는 나 자신의 모든 것을 쏟을 가치가 없다. 혼자만의 만족을 나는 싫어한다. 작품은 우리가 살고 있는 현실에 대한 깨우침이며 살아있음의 확인이다. 우리 젊은 세대들은 이 땅의 현실이 주는 억압에 고통 받고 또 이를 이겨내려 한다. 그 모습들을 담고 있다."
