Park In Hyuk
My painting begins not with constructing a form, but with releasing it through gesture. I have practiced martial arts since childhood and continue daily physical training. Through this long discipline, I came to understand the body as more than a tool, it is a vessel of memory, sensation, and time. The rhythms of breathing, movement, tension, and release naturally translate into lines and planes on the canvas. Rather than planning an image, I respond to bodily impulses. The lines are traces of movement, not drawings of objects. They vibrate, overlap, and sometimes disappear beneath layers of paint. What matters to me is not a finished form, but the unstable moments in between where forms remain open and unresolved. Nature is a fundamental source of inspiration, not as something to depict, but as a system of invisible forces. My works echo natural processes such as growth, erosion, concealment, and emergence. Lines may suggest roots, wind, waves, or currents, yet they remain abstract gestures rather than representations. Ultimately, my painting is a record of movement a field where body and nature meet, and where energy continues to unfold.
나의 회화는 형태를 쌓아 올리는 데서 출발하지 않고, 제스처를 통해 형상을 풀어내는 과정에서 시작된다. 어릴 때부터 태권도를 포함한 신체 수련을 해왔고, 지금도 매일 몸을 움직인다. 이런 반복적 훈련을 통해 몸은 단순한 도구가 아니라, 감각과 기억, 시간과 경험을 담은 하나의 전체라는 것을 깨달았다. 호흡과 움직임, 긴장과 이완의 리듬은 자연스럽게 화면 위의 선과 면으로 전환된다. 나는 미리 계획된 이미지보다, 몸의 순간적 반응을 따라 움직인다. 화면 위의 선들은 흔들리고 겹치며, 때로는 붓질 아래로 사라지기도 한다. 중요한 것은 완성된 형상이 아니라, 열린 상태로 남아 흔들리는 순간이다. 자연은 나에게 중요한 영감의 원천이지만, 구체적인 풍경을 그리지는 않는다. 대신 성장, 침식, 숨김과 드러남과 같은 자연의 보이지 않는 힘과 흐름을 화면에 담는다. 선들은 뿌리, 바람, 물결, 혹은 땅속 진동을 떠올리게 하지만, 동시에 구체적 형상은 아닌 추상적 흔적으로 남는다. 결국 나의 회화는 몸과 자연이 만나는 에너지의 장이며, 끊임없이 생성되고 확산되는 움직임의 기록이다.
